According to existing local and national data, Black staff are underrepresented in management posts. Programme consultant, Trevor Gordon and delivery partner Dr. Helen Deane of HDC Training have assisted the college in developing a thorough and high-quality programme designed to support the professional development of Black staff. This Level 7 Leadership for Black Staff programme starts on 1 October 2024.



The Future Managers Programme is a leadership development programme aimed at building staff confidence and developing the capability and skills of those working in the Sixth Form College sector within the Further Education system. 

The course will build your confidence and develop your capability and skills as a current, new or aspiring leader, whether in a curriculum or professional support area.

The course consists of 6 full days of training, with preparation work for some of the sessions

This Level 5 Leadership for Black Staff programme starts on the 1 October 2024.

Through existing local and national data, Black staff are under-represented in leadership and management positions in the Further and Higher Education sectors. Programme consultant, Trevor Gordon, has assisted the college in establishing a thorough and high-quality programme designed to support the professional development of Black staff into managerial positions. Dr. Helen Ann Deane of HDC Training has worked with Trevor and South Bank Colleges (SBC),  to develop an ILM accredited programme, to support the advancement of aspiring Black leaders and managers.

Leadership development programme for future managers 

The Future Managers Programme is a leadership development programme aimed at building staff confidence and developing the capability and skills of those working in the Sixth Form College sector within the FE system. Its aim is to build your confidence and develop your capability and skills as a current, new or aspiring first tier manager, whether in a curriculum or business/learning support area.


Advancing your Leadership Skills is a (ILM) Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management) is a short course which is ideal if you are looking to advance your career as a practicing manager. It will help you to develop your skills, improve your performance and prepare for senior management responsibilities. 

You will be able to access these programme course resources until the end of the August 2018.

Course Overview

The ILM Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management is a short course which is ideal if you're a practicing middle manager looking to advance your career. It will help you to develop your skills, improve your performance and prepare for senior management responsibilities. The course caters to many management styles and is suitable for a range of different sectors. It focuses on how to use core management techniques to drive better results, how to manage change, and how to critically assess your beliefs and values in relation to management theories.


This internationally-recognised qualification is accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management, the UK's leading awarding body for management training, so it will demonstrate conclusively to employers that you have the skills needed to excel in a senior management role. You will need to complete two work based assignments and attend three one day workshops and a half day assignment support seminar.

The Developing your Leadership & Management Skills (Dip) is a leadership and management development which aims is to build your confidence and develop the knowledge, capability and skills  required for you and your organisation to be secure in your ability to carry out your management role.  

A large part of your role as a manager involves employee management and the course will help you to learn how to motivate your staff and develop their skills. You will look at a variety of leadership styles while you develop your own, and learn to make decisions that show solution-oriented thinking. You will also learn effective communication skills and look at the best way to establish and maintain excellent team-working. On completion of this course and successful completion of the assignments, you will achieve a Level 3 Diploma in Leadership and Management.

 Delivered over 6-days, the programme is comprised of 3  modules which will move you from a personal understanding of your own leadership strengths and development needs, through the issues of leading others and through to an awareness of your role within your organisation.

This Level 7 Leadership for Black Staff programme started on 22 September, our delegates began the first day of the programme.

This 2-day, City & Guilds accredited Introduction to Trainer Skills course is designed to provide you with a sound introduction to the concepts of a systematic approach to training. It is comprehensive in content at this level, building your skills, knowledge and abilities that are required to be an effective trainer.

This Level 3 Award is an introduction to teaching that will give an insight into the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training, how to plan and deliver inclusive teaching sessions, and how to assess and give constructive feedback.

Evidence and documentation regarding the staff, resources and systems needed to support: the delivery of assessment where necessary, the recording of any appropriate exemptions.
