Founder & lead consultant

Developing leaders, strengthening organisations, and creating opportunities for people to thrive.

For more than 25 years, I have worked with leaders, managers and learners across public and private sector organisations — including education, public services, policing, and the voluntary and community sector. Throughout that time, my focus has remained the same: helping people and organisations navigate change, build confidence, and achieve their potential.

My career has taken me from human resources and teaching into senior leadership, consultancy, coaching, organisational development, quality improvement, and research. Along the way, I have worked with colleges, universities, national improvement agencies, and public-sector organisations — supporting leadership development, organisational change, learning and development, and equality, diversity, and inclusion.

These experiences have taught me that successful organisations are built on more than systems and processes. They depend on leadership, culture, relationships, and a shared sense of purpose. They have also reinforced my belief that inclusion is fundamental to organisational success, not an addition to it.

Today, I work with organisations to develop inclusive leaders, strengthen organisational culture, and create meaningful and sustainable change. My approach combines consultancy, coaching, training, and organisational development — drawing on practical experience, research, and a commitment to evidence-informed practice.

I am particularly interested in how leadership, inclusion, wellbeing, and trauma-informed approaches can create environments where people can thrive. More recently, I have also explored how digital innovation and artificial intelligence can enhance learning, creativity, and organisational effectiveness — while keeping people at the centre of the process.

What clients value

Clients often tell me they value my ability to combine strategic thinking with practical action. I bring curiosity, challenge, empathy, and a collaborative approach to every engagement — helping organisations tackle complex challenges and turn ideas into meaningful results. Above all, I believe in building trusted relationships and creating solutions that make a lasting difference.

Leadership Development Further Education · College

An ILM Accredited Level 5 and Level 7 Positive-Action Leadership programme for Black staff in further education.

The Challenge

A further education college wanted to address the under-representation of Black, Asian, and ethnically diverse staff in leadership positions and support aspiring leaders to progress within the organisation.

The Approach

Working in partnership with the college and programme consultant, HDC designed and delivered a leadership development programme centred on coaching, confidence-building, and inclusive leadership. The programme provided a supportive environment for participants to explore their leadership potential, develop practical leadership skills, and navigate barriers to progression.

The Outcome

Participants reported increased confidence, motivation, and readiness for leadership roles. Following completion of the programme, some participants have secured promotions into a leadership position and attributed their success, in part, to the programme and coaching support received. The programme also helped strengthen understanding of positive action within the organisation and reinforced the college's commitment to developing a more diverse leadership pipeline.

Leadership Development Sixth-Form College Consortium

Leadership Development for Future and Middle Managers.

The Challenge

A sixth-form college consortium wanted to develop a sustainable pipeline of future and middle leaders through a leadership programme that remained relevant to the changing needs of the education sector while meeting ILM accreditation standards.

The Approach

HDC designed and delivered a bespoke ILM Level 5 leadership and management programme, working closely with college leaders, specialist associates, and the accrediting body. Over the years, the programme has been continually reviewed and updated to reflect emerging leadership challenges and sector priorities.

The Outcome

The programme has been successfully delivered for over 12 years as part of a wider leadership development partnership spanning more than 15 years. Participants have consistently achieved a 100% pass rate for ILM accreditation, while colleges continue to invest in the programme as a key part of developing future leadership capacity.

Interim EDI Leadership Higher Education · University

Interim EDI Leadership and Organisational Change.

The Challenge

A university engaged HDC to provide interim EDI leadership during a period of organisational challenge. The institution needed to restore momentum, strengthen its approach to equality, diversity and inclusion, and prepare for the recruitment of a permanent EDI Manager.

The Approach

Working closely with senior leaders, HDC reviewed existing structures, policies, processes, and data to identify key priorities and areas for improvement. Support included strengthening recruitment and promotion processes, reviewing EDI policies, building organisational capacity, and preparing the institution for Race Equality Charter membership.

The Outcome

Within six months, a revised recruitment strategy was introduced, promotion processes were reviewed, and a dedicated EDI team structure was established — including the recruitment of an EDI Manager, EDI Data Analyst, and EDI Coordinator. The organisation was left with clearer priorities, stronger governance, and a more sustainable foundation for advancing equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Leadership Review & Inclusion Public Sector · Large Organisation

Leadership Development Review and Inclusion Strategy.

The Challenge

A large public-sector organisation sought independent review and strategic advice to strengthen its leadership development provision and ensure it reflected contemporary approaches to inclusion, equity, and organisational effectiveness.

The Approach

HDC was commissioned to evaluate a leadership development programme, reviewing curriculum design, learning delivery, participant experience, and programme outcomes. The review was undertaken through an equity, diversity, inclusion, and trauma-informed lens, with a focus on inclusive leadership, cultural competence, psychological safety, and organisational culture.

The Outcome

The organisation received evidence-based recommendations to strengthen leadership development, enhance participant experience, and align learning more closely with its organisational values and strategic priorities. The review helped identify opportunities to further embed inclusive leadership and support long-term organisational effectiveness.
